Hello and good evening, internet. Fancy seeing you here. Time for quick news- I aced all of my college classes this semester! And that is saying something, because they were both sophomore level classes, and required more effort and knowledge than absolutely anything else I've ever done, except maybe the AP US test. My English class helped my writing a lot. I think that I am going to be more conscious of developing arguments and structuring them properly now. I have less than four weeks of school left, and my senior prom dress came in today. I took a risk and ordered it from lightinthebox.com, and it turned out pretty well, I think. It's lined, it fits, and it's pretty, although now I think I should have picked navy instead of red. Nonetheless, the only complaint I have is that it came pretty darn wrinkled, but then again, it shipped from China, so I can't complain. I've continued my ritual of reading in the library during school for one hour, and I have gotten through many books. They've all been good, and below I will detail them. I sincerely hope I'm not forgetting any.... but here we go!
You might notice that I have three 10's and one 6. I'm picky with what I read. I don't really like mysteries or things that are especially sad throughout. If I had to rank my 10's, I would have to say....
On that note, go forth and read!

I am clearly the least creative at 12am. I wanted to briefly review some of the books I've read over the past week, thanks to non-musical-having free time. These were certainly a fun read. I saw them in my school library during my free class period, and remembered seeing TTYL on a banned books list. That obviously piqued my interest. (I'm only kind of kidding.) So along with being banned from some libraries because of frank teenage discussion of risque content (i.e. sex), I was also curious about these because they detail high school drama. That's something I pride myself in being mostly removed from, so reading these books made me shake my head about all of the gossipy things I have "missed out on." The formatting of these books is very unique. You can really follow the three main characters (Zoe, Angela, and Madigan) as they grow up throughout the books. The last one was my favorite, probably because it details the girls' senior year, college acceptance, and overall growing up. So many feels were felt. I think I remember tearing up a little bit. Overall, these are good, but they are very blunt about a couple mostly taboo topics and do push envelopes, so read with maturity and a little bit of caution. These are fun books that were stocked by a high school library, so there's that! I must confess, the title scared me a little. In the end, the intrigue won over, and then I figured out that this is a memoir. I was extremely interested when I started this book. In fact, I even went through the trouble of checking it out to take it home over the weekend. (I read the series above sitting in the library. I'm a nerd.) The cover is interesting. It caught my eye. Now about the insides of this book! It's eye-opening. It's really unique. I had never read anything like this before. I thought it was a really clever concept and this actually happened which makes it even better. This is a great book. It combats a lot of stereotypes and addresses teen pregnancy in a very poignant way. (I am secretly rejoicing that I got to use the word "poignant" on my blog.) This book is really inspiring. It encourages readers to rise above stereotypes and what people expect of them. I think the world could use a little more of that. |
